Although the information below does not include all of the joys or announcements for our community, it is wonderful to share what we have available. Check out the AFM Calendar for more. On the Calendar, select the “Agenda” view if you would like to see a list by clicking on the word “Month” at the top right corner of the calendar and select “Agenda” from the dropdown list.

Sad News

It is with heavy hearts that two dear ones in our community have recently passed on. Lee L. a long time member of Annapolis Friends Meeting left us on Sunday, March 28, 2021 and, only four days later, Gary M., the dear husband of Kit H. passed on April 1, 2021. We hold their families and friends in the Light. Details of memorials and means of honoring them will be provided at a later date.

For more information, contact Barb T. at pastoral-care@annapolisfriends.org.

Quaker Voice of Maryland

Updates from Week 12:

  • Stay hip on our priorities > Quaker Voice continues to work on updating our priority bill list daily with voting dates and general bill updates as they become known.

  • Police Reform Bills Racial and Equity Impact Note (Link) – I encourage you to read an impact note that has been written to accompany the police reform bills, in whatever final version they take; the note summarizes important information about police actions that hurt and kill Marylanders across the state.

Updates as we look forward to Week 13 (4/5 – 4/9):

  • This is the last full week of session!!!! It is hard to believe that this coming week is going to be the final full week before session ends on April 12th; expect it to be hectic and keep an eye on your email for any last minute action alert requests.

  • Action Alerts!!! There are some priority bills that need extra support in these final days.

    • Climate Solutions Now Act (Action) was heavily amended in House, but Chesapeake Climate Action Network is continuing to support the amended version – contact representatives to say you want SB414 to pass!

    • Police Accountability Bills (Action) are still being considered and we want to make sure that there is a strong definition for “lethal use of force”; use our action alert to say that this is an important part of any successful police accountability bill package.

    • This info can also be found on the action alert page on our website.

5th Night Light – Every Thursday evening

From 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, the AFM community engages in a spiritual practice that acknowledges the Light of God within each person and that to be in community is to actively care for one another. During that time, Friends hold people and situations who need additional spiritual support in the Light. Friends will pause wherever they may be, read the list of names, and hold each person or situation in our hearts and in the Light. On Wednesday, the list of names or situations are sent out to the AFM-Announce list.

For more information, contact Pastoral Care at pastoral-care@annapolisfriends.org.
