Meeting for Worship for Healing
From 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, the AFM community will gather on Zoom for a Meeting for Worship focused on healing and transition. Our Dear Friend Lee L. who is very close to passing on from her life with us will be held in our hearts and in the Light. There are others in our community who are also experiencing serious medical concerns that will also be held in the Light. At the 11:00 am MfW on March 28th on Zoom, those gathered were able to express their love, prayers and well wishes for a good, peaceful transition to Lee as she listened. The Zoom links for the MfW for Healing is on the calendar or you can click: MfW for Healing

Path Forward Survey – March 2021
The Path Forward Committee launched a survey to obtain input from the community about our preparations to hold in-person, indoor events.
THANK YOU!!!! To the 41 Friends who have completed the survey! Yay!
The survey will close at the end of March. If you haven’t completed the survey, yet, please click on Path Forward March Survey to take the survey online. A printable version of the survey is also available. Only one survey per person, please.
Also, there will be two Listening Sessions sponsored by the Path Forward Committee that will be held on April 5th at 4:00 pm and April 8th at 7:00 pm. We can discuss and listen together about our answers to the survey and more. Please mark your calendars!!

First Day School
The Children’s Religious Education Committee and their “Second Circle” would like to extend the invitation to the broader AFM community to volunteer to help out with First Day School at some point during the remainder of the school year. This would help our small circle of adults already involved, and would be a great opportunity for you to help build community across ages at AFM. And, it’s fun!.

Reminder – Easter (April 4th)!
The 4th Month Meeting for Worship (MfW) with Attention to Business (wAtB) will be held on April 11th at 9:15 am, instead of the usual 1st Sunday at 9am. The change was approved at the 3rd Month MfW wAtB, so that Friends can celebrate Easter on the 1st Sunday of April (04/04/2021) . The change in start time is designed to provide a bit of break between Early Worship and the MfW wAtB. Potluck will be held on the 11th, too.
For more information, contact Martha B. at clerk@annapolisfriends.org.
April 4, 2021 is Easter and the Ministry & Worship (M&W) Committee has the following offerings:
- 6:30 am (15-mins before sunrise) on Zoom
- 8:00 am, MfW – in-person with registered Friends
- 11:00 am, MfW with two options: 1st with Zoom and 2nd in-person with registered Friends

Quaker Voice of Maryland
Many KUDOS and much appreciation to Molly Finch (our very own) who develops all this information for Quaker Voice of Maryland (QVM and provides that information to AFM). If you want more information, please go to Quakervoicemd.com.
Here are the updates from Week 11 of the General Assembly and actions/activities for Week 12.
Updates from Week 11:
-
Cross-over Day happened! – We, and some of our priority bills, made it to the other side of cross-over day; check out our priority bill list for updates on which bills are crossing over to the opposite chamber.
-
Hearing on Senate Police Accountability Bills happened on March 25th – If you missed it you can still watch the recording on the committee meeting webpage. To get caught up on the difference between the House & Senate versions, and why MD Coalition for Justice & Police Accountability says we need to “keep pushing to reimagine policing”, check out this Maryland Matters article with helpful bill-breakdowns.
-
Cross-over highlight > Rewarding Educational Milestones – On the topic of reform we want to highlight this particular bill from our priority list under the topic of criminal justice reform. This bill is focused on education incentives for people experiencing incarceration and bill versions were voted on favorably in both the House and Senate, resulting in a double cross-over — hooray! If this bill is new to you, check out testimony submitted by Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform (MAJR) in favor of the bill to learn more.
Updates as we look forward to Week 12 (3/29-4/2):
-
Action Alert – Support Climate Solutions Now! (Link): Climate Solutions Now (CSN), a great piece of climate legislation moving though the General Assembly, has made it through cross-over day and has an opposite chamber hearing scheduled for Wed., March 31st. SB414 is being heard in the House Environment & Transportation committee – take action early in the week to let delegates know this legislation is important to you! You can learn more about the bill on the CCAN CSN webpage.
-
Action Alert – Strengthen Environmental Justice Commission (Link): HB1207 calls for updates to the Environmental Justice Commission, which is included in the Climate Solutions Now Act but hasn’t been updated in 20 years. Use this action alert to urge Senators to strengthen the commission; examples of bill impact include increasing representation from community members impacted by environmental injustices. This is not a Quaker Voice priority bill, but this action alert is being shared because HB1207 would make CSN climate justice impact stronger.
-
“Annapolis Lunch Break” on Mondays @ 12:15pm: Quaker Voice continues to host a virtual meet-up with Friends to touch base on the Action Alert for the week and then “go” take action. The meet-up should only take 10-15 minutes. If you are new to advocacy work or need a little extra support to feel confident to take the action, this meet up is for you! Join us in Zoom –> https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85050569999 // Meeting ID: 850 5056 9999; info is also listed on our events calendar.

5th Night Light – Every Thursday evening
From 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, the AFM community engages in a spiritual practice that acknowledges the Light of God within each person and that to be in community is to actively care for one another. During that time, Friends hold people and situations who need additional spiritual support in the Light. Friends will pause wherever they may be, read the list of names, and hold each person or situation in our hearts and in the Light. On Wednesday, the list of names or situations are sent out to the AFM-Announce list.
