Quaker Market Committee helps Annapolis Friends and the larger community practice being spiritual in our material world. We:
- Aim to reflect Quaker testimonies (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship) throughout all Market processes from preparation to conclusion;
- Plan, publicize, organize and carry out 2 fundraisers each year:
- Spring Quaker Market – 1st Saturday in May
- Holiday Quaker Market – 1st Saturday in December;
- Gather items to sell at Market, providing Friends the opportunity to simplify their lives by relinquishing unnecessary possessions and making them available to others;
- Discern beneficiaries of Quaker Market proceeds and in-kind donations, paying special attention to issues such as sustainability, justice, non-violent conflict resolution, anti-racism, and vulnerable populations;
- Provide education re: selected causes;
- Bring a spiritual approach to all Quaker Market activities, including committee meetings, discernment of beneficiaries, and Quaker Markets themselves, thereby establishing and deepening caring relationships within the Annapolis Friends Meeting community, as well as with the broader community.
