Annapolis Friends Meeting’s Quaker Holiday Market took place on Saturday, 1 December, from 9 to 2 pm, providing opportunities to purchase delicious food and flea market treasures, paperwhite bulbs and other plants, olive oil from Bethlehem, and handcrafted items. Live music was provided by community members. As usual, flea market treasures were for the most part unpriced, relying on shoppers to set prices that were fair and met their budgets.
Through the main event and related sales, Quaker Holiday Market 2018 raised almost $11,000, which will benefit the Alternatives to Violence Project—Uganda, the Quaker United Nations Office, and Springbrook High School’s Free Store (helping to insure all students have the supplies they need to succeed in school). Proceeds from the sale of the handcrafted Afghan items went directly to Afghan Women’s Fund. Items not sold by the end of the day were leveraged through in-kind donations to a variety of causes, including Carol’s Community Clothing Closet (Light House), Eastport Elementary School’s Holiday Shop, Orphan Grain Train, Bon Secours Hospital’s clothing closet, prison libraries and refugee camps in Greece.
Next Quaker Market will be held on Saturday, 4 May 2019.
Congratulations!!!
