We are a spiritual fellowship where all people of the widest diverse personal, spiritual and social backgrounds are always welcome.
We are a community of spiritual seekers.
Annapolis Friends Meeting (AFM) is an unprogrammed Quaker Meeting. An unprogrammed Quaker Meeting where we worship means there is no conventional program to our worship. We have no designated minister, no pre-arranged prayers, no sermons, and no hymns. Our worship service is in silence.
We use the term “Meeting,” instead of “church” for we understand that we are a group of people who come together to meet for the purpose of worshiping together.
Programmed Quakers – those which have a pastor-led service with a shorter amount of silence, or none – sometimes also use the word “meeting” but they sometimes call their congregation a “church”.
When unprogrammed Quakers gather, we also use the term “Meeting” because we believe that all Quaker gatherings are sacred and have worship at their core. We have Meetings for Business, Meetings for Learning, and Memorial Meetings.
Through our committees, broader Quaker organizations, and interfaith alliances, Annapolis Friends Meeting thinks globally and acts locally on the great concerns of our time: such as, world peace, alternatives to violence, racial justice, homelessness, LGBTQ rights, and protection of the environment.
