It is Week 13 of the General Assembly

The QVM, writes …

“Hello Friends,

Welcome to Week 13 of the General Assembly! Last week…
  • Child Interrogation Protection Act, Climate Solutions Now Act, and Energy Performance Targets & Low Income Housing are all heading to the governor’s desk! At this point all the bills have had a version successfully passed out of both chambers – the next step is making sure they successfully pass the governor’s desk. Use our Bill Tracking sheet for individual updates and review this legislative process resource by Georgetown for a refresher on what the governor can do once a bill reaches their desk.

This week (4/4-4/8)…

  • Social Justice Legislation Rally in Annapolis – 4/5 @ 9-11AM. We’ve been invited by MD Poor People’s Campaign for a rally in Annapolis to show support for social justice legislation along with other like-minded organizations (CASA, Jews United for Justice, and others); legislation they are supporting include one of our 2022 priority bills – the Child Interrogation Protection ActCheck out the event page to learn more and hope you can join the rally to show support for SB0053!
  • Last full week of session before “Sine Die” on April 11th. Our priority bills are looking pretty good right now, but there may be last minute action alerts to get bills successfully across the governor’s desk; speaking of —
    • ACTION ALERT – EMAIL HOGAN TO SIGN CLIMATE SOLUTIONS NOW. The Climate Solutions Now Act has passed through both the MD Senate and House chambers and the final step for the bill is for Governor Larry Hogan to sign in. Chesapeake Climate Action Network has shared an action alert to email Governor Hogan and urge him to pass the bill and make it law; help us make sure this bill crosses the final hurdle!
That is all for this week — if you have any questions or ideas please feel free to reach out to me or any of our working group members.

In Light,

Molly Finch
