From Quaker Voice of Maryland –
Hello Friends,
Welcome to Week 9 of the General Assembly!
Last week…
- Voting sessions are starting to happen. Some of our bills are scheduled for voting sessions in committee – the sooner they get voted on and out of their committee the better! Check out the Priority Bill Tracking sheet on our website for updates on if a bill is coming up for vote in committee.
- We had a new volunteer joining the team! Shout out to our new Committee Voting Tracker, Beth! She will be giving us extra support over the next two weeks before Crossover Day to make sure we don’t miss any important voting sessions for our priority bills.
This week…
- ACTION ALERT FOR MONDAY A.M. – Economic Matters Voting Session. One of our priority bills has a hearing on Monday, 3/7 @ 1PM and we need your help reaching out to committee members to ask for a FAVORABLE vote. Check out the action alert link for more information and thanks for your support!
- ACTION ALERT – Support for Civics Education. Complete a survey by MD Department of Education on how to invest in education; the League of Women Voters (LWV) is asking for support of civics education to ensure that future voters know how to participate in the democratic process. This aligns with the Quaker Voice priority of Voting Rights in the current general assembly and our previous work on The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future for education funding.
That is all for this week — if you have any questions or ideas please feel free to reach out to me or any of our working group members.
In Light,
Molly Finch
