Qi and Grace: An Embodied Lord’s Prayer

In place of the Wednesday Meditation on November 17, 2021 (Wednesday) from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, there will be a special online program called: Qi and Grace: An Embodied Lord’s Prayer. Note: This is a one-time offering in the place of the regularly-held Wednesday Evening Meditation Group, and it is for this date only.

Qigong is an ancient Taoist shamanic healing practice based in Chinese Medicine. It is designed to center, integrate and harmonize the Body, Mind, and Spirit. This program is a special opportunity to learn from Kaleo Ching and his wife Elise, who for 32 years have been writing and teaching Qigong, meditation, and shamanic practices for educational institutions, spiritual communities, incarcerated populations, and other venues nationally and internationally.

Quaker Holiday Market is taking orders now. Please note that there is a pretty quick turnaround time with a deadline of November 22 for notecards and food. Pickup and payment will be during curbside pickup at the meetinghouse on Saturday, December 4, or by special arrangement.

As a reminder, proceeds will benefit the following 4 causes, in addition to any chosen by Young Friends discernment:

To place your order, please contact Cairn K at cairnkrafft@comcast.net or reply to the 11/13 email announcement from “Quaker Holiday Market: Important Updates” that includes a list of items, descriptions, and prices.

Food Donations for Quaker Holiday Market

If it would bring you joy to contribute food for us to sell at Quaker Holiday Market, please let Cairn K know asap, so we can get it advertised. Please include approximately how many “servings/units” you would like to provide. Soup/stew/chili will be sold by the pint or quart. Volunteers will be available at the meetinghouse on Friday 12/3 in the afternoon to package things up for you if that would be helpful, or you can drop items off pre-packaged at the meetinghouse by 9:45 am the morning of  December 4.

AFM Holiday Sharing

This year, we are  providing Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets to 3 families (i.e., 5 adults and 6 children) and Christmas gifts for the children. The names of the families were provided by the local Dept. of Social Services. We assisted them last year and accomplished our goals for three families with about $1,050. This year, we anticipate that it will take about $1,500 to cover costs.  A fourth family will also be supported and selected by the Light House, a homeless prevention center located in Annapolis. So far we have received $1230.

Should you be interested in contributing to this effort, you can  still donate in 1 of these 2 ways:

  1. Drop off a check  to the meeting house and place it in the red envelope on the desk in the office, or
  2. Mail the check to the meetinghouse: Annapolis Friends Meeting, ATTN:  Holiday Sharing, 351 Dubois Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401

Please mark the check (in the memo field) and envelope the outside of the envelope clearly as “Holiday Sharing.”

For more information, contact Phil C., Terry D., or Denise F.

AFM Directory Update Project

The Annapolis Friends Meeting Directory is in the process of being updated and each F/friend is asked to participate by checking the current directory for accuracy. Is your address, phone, and email correct? Would you like to see changes made?

Please send any change requests to communications@annapolisfriends.org and the changes will be made. This project is hopefully going to wrap-up before the middle of Christmas, so that we have all the most current addresses when the Annual Contributions Letter is mailed in February 2022.

To access the online Directory, start on the AFM Home page (https://dev.annapolisfriends.org). Scroll down to the footer and click on “For Members and Attenders”. In the next window, click on the words “Member Directory”. If a password is needed, type it in (i.e., the first and last name – no spaces – of the Quaker woman born in 1614 and whose 2nd husband was George Fox). Once in the directory, you can search for your entry, print the PDF or click on the 1st letter of your last name. If it is okay, nothing else is requested. If there are changes to be made, send the requested changes to the Communications Committee.

For more information, contact Wes J. at communications@annapolisfriends.org

Friendly 8s

Now’s the time to let Pastoral Care know if you are interested in being part of a FRIENDLY 8s group if you haven’t yet. Each year, AFM Pastoral Care Committee organizes those interested into groups of 8. The purpose is simple—get to know and enjoy other Annapolis Friends, their partners, and families. Typically, groups find a mutually convenient time to meet monthly from fall to summer. (Virtual or in-person options.)  All are welcome.

See the recent email in afm-announce or contact Barbara T. at pastoral-care@annapolisfriends.org for more information.

2022 AFM Committees

The Nominating Committee has been developing the slate for next year’s committees and asks your help in reviewing it to make sure they have correctly captured your interests. The slate was recently circulated to afm-announce email. Please be in touch with Wes J., nominating@annapolisfriends.org, with any changes or if you wish to discuss being added to a committee.

Are you the next AFM recording clerk?  This is the person who records the minutes for our records at Meeting for Business. It’s a great way to learn more about what’s happening in the Meeting and, while an important role, it is manageable in terms of time commitment. There is lots of support for someone new in the role.

Send email to nominating@annapolisfriends.org to let them know of your interests.

5th Night Light – Every Thursday evening

From 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm on every Thursday, the AFM community engages in a spiritual practice that acknowledges the Light of God within each person and that to be in community is to actively care for one another. During that time, Friends hold people and situations who need additional spiritual support in the Light. Friends will pause wherever they may be, read the list of names, and hold each person or situation in our hearts and in the Light. On Wednesday, the list of names or situations are sent out to the AFM-Announce list.

For more information, contact Pastoral Care pastoral-care@annapolisfriends.org
